In our Digital world it is easier to self-publish and inexpensive. It does take time and labor though! Preparing a book for submission to Amazon Kindle can be intimidating. Here are some great tips I learned for formatting Word docs to Kindle friendly formats:
You can use Page Breaks in Kindle format to create space between Chapters.
- headers /footers
- page numbers
more on Headers/footers:
If you find any, they must be deleted. To remove a header or footer, double-click that area of the document to open the header or footer editing window. Select the information and press the "Delete" key. Note: make sure you are in the right mode in Word, in certain modes like web layout footers won't show. Click "Close" when done.
LOCATING TABS: To locate them in your document click the "Replace" button on the Editing panel of the Home tab. Enter "^t" in the "Find What" box to search for tabs, or enter the number of spaces you used for your indents to search for those. Leave the "Replace With" field blank and Word will delete the found item instead of replacing it with something else,
TABLE OF CONTENTS: Create in Word (more on that shortly).
