This book is an important one to read at this time. Mr. Hayes solidifies and clarifies the vague inklings of suspicions & discomfort we all feel.
The system is bad -- it's corrupt. He speaks of our misplaced trust in authority, how the Media were the "watchdogs who didn't bark". All of the power people were "in on it": economists & policy makers, academia, regulators. They were deceptive, stupid or lax.
The Leaderless Organization
Hayes has a tinge of optimisam when he sees a vision of leaderless organizaions" such as Occupy Wall Street springing up. And he feels the democratic dispersion of the Internet assists the new paradigm.
He ends the book with a reminder that "democracy has been and is a struggle". We cannot be passive. We must strive to uphold it. Read this book - it inspires and gives a rallying cry for mobilizing.
