***VIVID ACCOUNT * HUMOROUS * INSTRUCTIVE***
"A Walk for Sunshine" by Jeff Alt
"A Walk for Sunshine" is an account of a 147 day odyssey on the Appalachian Trail. is an inspirational telling of an everyday person who seeks to accomplish an extraordinary task in honor of a beloved brother and a good cause, Sunshine Home, a facility in Ohio for developmentally disabled. It is also where Jeff's brother Aaron lives.
A heartwarming, inspiring, humorous account.
The People You Meet
He meets all kinds of people on the trail: people like Packrat, Zeb,Crash, or even one frightening guy named Sponge, a good reminder that not all people you find on remote hiking areas are people you want to meet. It's best not to be too naive. He describes the trials and tribulations, both mental and physical, of hauling a 50 lb pack up hill and down hill for several months. Bears, bugs, skunks as bedmates, bad weather, sore feet are some of his tribulations.
Life Lessons
The ending is written with "life lessons" that he learned along the trail. Very informative for anyone considering a hike on the trail. This is a great book about facing fear and working toward a challenging goal.
