Why Retirees (Ummm, no) reFirees Are Like The Perfect Jersey Tomatoes--Early Girl and Big Boy

The Rutgers University tomato, The Ramapo is back.
First launched in 1968 it was and is considered the PERFECT Jersey Tomato. It is sweet and tangy. It is meaty. It is perfect for a tomato sandwich--fitting exactly on the bread with not too much overhang. It is easy to grow and so prolific. Picked ripe it is full of flavor.
Now isn't that the perfect description of us Boomers?
We are a little meaty now. Some of us (speaking of myself) do over hang the bread, but not too much. And we bite off meaty subjects to chew. We are sweet and we are tangy. Ask our opinion and we'll tell you either sweetly or with some acidity, just what we think!
When tomatoes grown for shipping were invented in the 80s, the Ramapo, aka Early Girl and Big Boy, fell out of favor. They did not have thick skins and they tasted best picked at the peak of ripeness. If you have never had the pleasure of Early Girl juice running down your arm when you bite into a tomato sandwich...get some seeds and plant next year.
In the last decades Boomers have had to develop thick skins to withstand the slings and arrows of Bush policies.
But like the Ramapo, brought back because you just can't fake the real thing...can retirees, no reFIREES let their juiciness out?
